OPTYSE
OPTYSE is the unique, portable, lens free direct ophthalmoscope.
How does a lens free direct ophthalmoscope work?
Conventional direct ophthalmoscopes are used to examine the eye including viewing the retina. This can
be useful when examining patients who present with possible eye injuries or sight defects. Early symptoms
of serious medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetic retinopathies can also be detected with a
direct ophthalmoscope.
Like other direct ophthalmoscopes, the Optyse utilizes the cornea and the lens of the eye under observation
to produce a magnified image of the retina. Patented features provide even illumination of the eye and reduce
stray light and glare which can degrade image quality. The images obtained by the Optyse are non-inverted and
the magnification is typically 15x, although the exact magnification will depend on the eye under observation.
The design ensures that good quality retinal images can be obtained without the use of correcting lenses.
However, the company recommends that if users normally need glasses for long-sighted vision, then they should
leave their glasses on during the examination.

professionals in hospitals, primary care clinics, optometry and veterinary care.
In addition, the Optyse is ideal for the training of nurses, medical students and veterinarians and as a
back up instrument for eye specialists.
Portable
The light-weight, pen-sized device makes the Optyse convenient to carry in a pocket for use when required.
No need to search for an ophthalmoscope when a need for use arises.
Safe
The light emitted from the Optyse meets the safety requirements as specified by regulations for direct ophthalmoscopes.
Robust
The Optyse has no lenses and few moving parts that can break if the device is dropped or mishandled. A cover,
integral to the Optyse, protects the optics from dust when not in use. A pocket pouch with clip is supplied
with the device to provide added protection and convenience when carried on person and during transport.
Effective
Conducted evaluations and user group studies with the Optyse have demonstrated that performance is comparable
to standard direct ophthalmoscopes in its intended use. Additional studies are in process to further define
performance in a range of clinical settings.
