Ahmed valve use increases

In the UK more surgeons are taking advantage of some of the benefits
to patients offered by Ahmed glaucoma valves and the flexible plate
version in particular.
All Ahmed valves feature a patented flow controlling valve. The
FP7 (flexible plate) also exhibits compact size, low profile and
the excellent anatomical flexibility derived from it
being made from soft silicone.
The valve offers immediate reduction in IOP, and a very low
risk of an excessive drop in pressure. Surgeons have commented
upon the relative ease of implantation and the immediate but controlled
drainage.
Many challenging cases including instances of chronic uveitic glaucoma
in children have been successfully treated, by the use of Ahmed implants.
For evidential data and movies showing the implantation
procedure go to www.ahmedvalve.com or contact Altomed customer
service, to request a free CD pack.
A small but wonderful lens

Although the Volk SuperQuad lens has for many years been the market leading
lens for performing Panretinal Photocoagulation (PRP), many surgeons have expressed the wish for a physically smaller lens but with similar performance.
The new High Resolution Wide Field Laser Lens from Volk delivers those features.
The Lens is narrower and lower allowing manipulation the lens on the eye, in even deep orbits, with greater ease and safety.
The Volk HS Wide Field Laser Lens is available now from Altomed. A trade-in deal may even be available for UK hospital customers, where a trade-in allowance may be given for a broken laser lens.
Contact Altomed customer services for details and conditions.
Liverpool welcomes RCO 08

In the same week as the Queen opened the new Liverpool Arena and Conference Centre, the complex also hosted the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Annual Congress.
Altomed exhibited some new products at the trade show that supported the congress. Brilliant Peel (ILM Dye), Spec Tac (single use lid retractors) and Volk Optiflex (VR viewing system), were all officially launched by Altomed.
Many surgeons and nurses picked up free congress t-shirts while visiting the Altomed stand. There are some t-shirts still available. Please email admin@altomed.com if you would like to receive a free t-shirt. (While stocks last).

New Brilliant Peel

Brilliant Peel is a new non-toxic Triphenylmethane dye which selectively stains the ILM to aid peeling during surgery to repair macula holes.
Unlike the use of ICG (Cyanine) dyes, Brilliant Peel is licensed for its intended use and is ‘ready to use’ at a stable concentration. However like ICG it is ILM selective.
Brilliant Peel is manufactured by Fluoron in Germany, within the same stringent manufacturing standards as the other Fluoron products that you will be familiar with, such as:
F-Decalin
Densiron 68
Soon Altomed will also be launching the new ErgoLine and 23G ranges of vitreo retinal forceps and scissors from Geuder Germany.
